We take a moment to acknowledge that we will be performing on the traditional and unceded land of the Massachusett people, who have stewarded this land for thousands of years. We recognize their enduring presence, resilience, and contributions, despite the lasting impacts of colonization. We honor their past, present, and future and commit to supporting Indigenous communities in meaningful ways. We invite all present to reflect on this history and consider how we can contribute to justice and reconciliation. Thank you for joining us in this acknowledgment.
The emBODY project seeks to explore body culture in relation to space, social construction, cultural tradition, and agency, and the impact that has on a performer engaged in theatrical storytelling.
This project will give space and time to an underserved topic in the field of theater performance, the topic of bodies and history, bodies and space, and bodies in motion as a means of artist storytelling in relation to the way body culture makes the artist feel.
Our efforts will use community interviews and a physical theater practitioners to collect stories that will be used in a devised movement based theater piece performed by the artists of CoLab.
